Moving from Typepad to MT or WP

I’ve grown tired of Typepad after two years & am looking for a more robust blog software that has most of TP’s best features but also covers areas in which TP is weak like spam protection, blog security & control of comment abuse.

I use advanced templates in TP (TP Pro). I’ve just started reading about WP & have some general knowledge about it but nothing substantial. I’m not a programmer of technical geek so I’m worried about whether I can convert my TP templates & import everything into WP so that it will function somewhat like TP does for me now.

Has anyone here moved fr. TP to WP. If so, can you tell me what lessons you learned, how the 2 compare & any other info you’d care to impart. I’d also welcome anyone chiming in here with some advice on how I might proceed & what I should be thinking about as I consider this.
