I recently did a fresh install of wordpress 2.1 I was previously using 2.0. My 2.0 install was located in the blog folder, while the new 2.1 install is in the root folder. So my old URL's in the search engine appear as http://www.domain.com/blog/year/month/day/title. I don't want my links to be broken, I'd like for the visitors to be forwarded to the new urls, which would be http://www.domain.com/year/month/day/title. Is there a mod_rewrite I can do in HTaccess to solve this issue?

yes, but this has nothing to do with wordpress. just use .htaccess to intercept anything with old folder structure in url to your root, or if everything maps then just replace that part of the url in the rule.

Dreamhost Wiki has a good primer
