[resolved] Moving domain and host. Is there any easy re-direct? (4 posts)

    Hi everyone,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

After two and a bit years at http://www.dave-lee.org, I am moving to a new host. When I do, I'll be using a new URL as well: daveleejblog.com.

I realise a huge amount of Google/referral hits will still come to my current domain (dave-lee.org). Is there anyway I can set something up so that any traffic to this site is automatically forwarded to my new site?

Can I even maintain the URL structure?

For example, if someone was to Google a post, they’d have a url like this:

    http://www.dave-lee.org/jblog/index.php/2008/10/how-should-we-be-using-twitter/

Is it possible to set up something that’ll, without even the user knowing, take them to this URL instead:

    http://www.daveleejblog.com/index.php/2008/10/how-should-we-be-using-twitter/

I will be importing all my posts/categories and suchlike to my new address, so structure should stay the same.

Any thoughts? Seems like something that will either be really easy, or outrageously difficult.

Any help gratefully appreciated. This forum has always been terrific in the past with stuff -- hopefully someone will come up with something.

    Cheers folks,

    Dave

Cheers -- I reckon the .htaccess code will do it for me.

(Will leave this as unresolved until I've sorted it. Right now, I'm going to bed. Any advice on the best method for 301 redirects (there seems to be a few) appreciated.

It depends on your server. I have Linux hosting and use the .htaccess version. If you are on a Windows IIS server, then Google:

    301 redirect IIS
