Hello, this is my first post at Word Press forums, I'm glad I found this resource.

I have a blog at word Press:
http://seopractices.wordpress.com, my question is if I can move this blog to my own domain name: http://www.seopractices.com but downloading the CMS at wordpress.org, which means I will be putting it in my own host. The blog will be my main site.

    Thanks in advance.

You can use the export furnction in the your admin aread at wordpress.com, ADMIN => MANAGE => EXPORT and this will give you the XML export of all your posts. If you install WP 2.1, you can do the opposite to import the entries once you have the install up and running by ADMIN => MANAGE => IMPORT and choose the WordPress import tool.

If you are going to run WP 2.0.7 or less and not WP 2.1, there is a plugin from techsailor that will allow you to import and export that file type.

You will have to manually pull each photo and file that you uploaded to wordpress.com 1 by 1 as there is currently no bulk download for content there.

Getting your entries across will be the easy part! Installing and getting your site up and running first will be harder!

Thanks Trent, I really apreciate your information, nice site by the way: trentadams.ca, I read your about page, I see you are a family, businessman, with some nice habits.

You said: "Getting your entries across will be the easy part! Installing and getting your site up and running first will be harder!"

It is that hard? I thought I just had to download the CMS, and that to configure it wasn't going to be that bad. Can you refer to me any document to read related to the subject?

Also what happens to the URL's of the old blog I had, are they going to be broken links once I move it to the new one, do I have to do 301 redirects.

    Thanks Trent.

    Gus.
