[resolved] Moving a local site to Server (live) (4 posts)

    Hi,

First of, I am a novice. I've looked at similar posts, but can't find the answer I am looking for. Here it goes:

I downloaded WAMP and WordPress 3.01 to my local PC, running Vista. I created a portfolio website for my artist wife, using the Portfolium theme.Everything looks great and she is super happy...

Now I simply want to upload the site and everything else to my hosting server (IX webhosting) so that 1) The new site will be live for the world to see and 2) My wife can login to the WordPress Dashboard online, and make changes all by herself, without worrying about FTP etc etc (she is even more of a novice than me). This is why I chose WordPress.I want her site to be live and for her to edit it on the fly, like you can do with any blog.

So, in short, move the site from local to remote.

I really hope someone can help, or at least point me in the right direction. I need a step-by-step guide on what to do.

    Best,
    Dave

    Thanks for your quick response,

I briefly looked at this earlier, but was confused as it did not mention moving locally to server.

I assume the section I should follow is entitled "Moving WordPress to a New Server". If so, I am a little unsure about the three mentioned steps:

#1 "Download a copy of the main wordpress files..."
Does this mean I log-in to my Dashboard and then Export? As I have been working locally, I think all my files are in a directory on my hardrive. So, do I skip this step?

#2 "Go back to your OLD blog..."
I think this is straighforwrad through Dashboard.

#3 "Again, download your database (but keep the old one just in case), upload this new database and the copy of the wordpress core files with the edited wp-config.php to your new server. Thats it!

I assume wp-config.php updateds itself after I have completed "2

Just for clarification; "Database" is the sql file I export from PhpMYDomain and "main WordPress files" are everything in my directory on my local machine? Is this right? Finally, when I upload the new database and wordpress files, are they altogether, or does Databse reside somewhere else?

I appreciate your help and sorry for appearing a bit stupid. I am terrible with anything related to coding, even although these steps seem to bypass this dilema :)

    Best,
    Dave

I finally managed to do it. The following link, with step-by-step video guide was very helpful:
