• I’m wondering whether there is a way to set up posts to display an image when they are viewed as part of a list but to display a movie when they are read as an individual post?

I have a large archive of animations which I want to put online in the form of posts but having the list page load 6 posts each of which contains a +-3MB movie would be annoying to say the least.

    Any ideas would be welcome.

  • Put the snapshot in excerpt field; put the video in post field.

When you display the list, display it as a list of excerpts.

Sorry Alaphaoide, being pretty new to this I have no idea where to find the excerpt field.

First of all, you have to be in advanced-version of “Write Post” panel.

Options -> Writing, select Advanced Controls, click Update Options

Then go to Write -> Write Post panel and the Excerpt field should be above the Post field.

Yup, found that and got it all going but for some reason anything I enter in the Excerpt field is ignored (text, images or both) – the post (both in list and post view) only ever shows what’s in the actual post field. I’ve got a feeling this has something to do with your earlier response “when you display the list, display it as a list of excerpts” but unfotunately I don’t know how to do that either.

    thanks in advance

Alphaoide is probably recommending you edit your template to use the_excerpt instead of the_content .

I think that’s probably right. Unfortunately I have not been able to determine which template file to apply these changes to.

I am completely and utterly stuck with this having no idea whatsoever where to edit the template as suggested above. Please can someone help me out here.
