Moved WP from a directory to the root, now Timthumb doesn't load images (3 posts)

I followed these instructions -- http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#Moving_WordPress_Within_Your_Site -- to move my site from http://www.example.com/blog to http://www.example.com.

Everything worked fine except all the thumbnail images for the posts show the "broken image" symbol because timthumb keeps trying to load them from the old blog directory such as this:

    http://www.example.com/wp-content/themes/arthemia-premium/scripts/timthumb.php?src=/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/-647394004138267550.jpg&w=150&h=150&zc=1&q=100

Why does timthumb insist on loading images from the blog directory? How do you make timthumb work with the current site settings? I haven't found a solution to this anywhere on the internet. I'm so discouraged at how many hours I've wasted trying to fix this. PLEASE HELP!

    WP 3.4.2 and Timthumb 2.8.11

  2. We DO NOT support timthumb on these forums. We strongly recommend that you do not use that script and use the built WordPress thumbnail features. Timthumb is a security nightmare.

I despise timthumb, but my theme uses it and I don't know how to get rid of it. :-(
