   I tried moving a wordpress blog using the method described here but the installation seems broken.
   (links/categories don't work, the main page "blog" (home) does not come up when clicking the problematic blog
   instead showing a different page.)
   is this repairable? how?

   sounds like you just need to reset permalinks
   admin - settings - permalinks
