   We moved hosts last week, so I changed the wp-config file to the new database details and all was ok.

   We can view the blog, add articles etc, but then sometimes we just get a database error and we can't view the blog at all or use the preview function. This error only happens once in a while, but it's a bit frustrating. Is there anything that could be causing this? Plugins maybe?

   Error message: Connect failed: Access denied for user 'USERNAME' to database 'DB_NAME'

   The username and database name shown in the error message are the OLD details, suggesting these are still in existence somewhere.

   If the issue is intermittent, I suggest you start by contacting your new hosts about this.

   I have done just that, and will report back if they can shed some light.

   The issue was down to a secondary script running in the header.php file which was trying to query the old database.

   Once I changed this, the problem went away.
