   Hi there guys,

   I'm writing this because I'm sort of worried. I run a website called Maple-News.com, which delivers the latest news about the popular MMORPG MapleStory. We've been using WordPress.com since January 2008, but our sponsor recently quit so we needed to put google ads up. We moved to my friends hosting which he's letting us use for free and got an amazing new layout. I've been worried about the switch because I know WordPress.com makes it very easy for your blog to get search engine hits and what not. I was just curious to whether or not my switching to custom wordpress would affect my hits at all. I have the WordPress.com blog redirecting to the new one...but is that enough?

   Thanks for any help/input you guys can give.

   The information on your site is what people are coming for, not what it looks like, so I do not personally think that it would make a difference.

   People who play this game really are big on eye-candy. But, it's more of a financial reason. We need money to keep the site going and to get bigger.

   Are you using a 301 redirect?

   I have absolutely no idea scarecrow...I noticed that it redirects if I leave the domain mapped on Maple-news.com in the wordpress.com CP...all the links on the new site are exactly the same so if u click on maple-news.com/example it';ll go to the right page...

   You may want to look into using a 301 redirect in your .htaccess file on the new server you're using.

   This will help keep your link ju-ju from Google and tell them to point it to your new domain.

   http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=301+redirect&btnG=Google+Search
