I had been using an old package offered by my hosting provider. I wanted to upgrade, but for various reasons they were unable to upgrade the old package so instead created a new one and transferred my domains across. They were also meant to transfer my data across, but this didn’t happen.

I’ve managed to pull my wordpress files from the old package using FTP and my master-ID so at least they’re backed up, but have been unable to access the SQL database on the old package and so am unable to back up and restore the database using the method in the codex.

There wasn’t a lot on the site so I don’t mind doing a new install of wordpress and c+ping the posts (if I can find where they’re stored), I’d just like my content up again.

  • if you can’t get the sql, you can’t get the content.

If you can’t get the sql, you might as well start over fresh…. all of your content like posts and pages is in the DB )except your plugins and themes (which are probably out of date) and your images, all those are in the files, wp-content folder

You can use Google cache possible to C/P your old content?

My little story I just wrote when I killed my DB….. (had to do a lot of C/P from cache)

Thanks for the advice – luckily there’s a recent cache so I’m c+ping from there. Thanks also for the link, I’ll def be backing up my databases.
