Move where error messages display on the page

Hi I’m using the Custom HTML form…I built the form myself in the template. Everything works great so far, but when a validation error occurs it places the error message up at the top of the page and I want to put it somewhere else. I built the template from scratch so I have no idea how it was told where to put that data.
