So...2.5.1 was installed in its own directory and now has a lot of content added.
Now that it is ready to go live, should I do a permanent redirect for the root to direct traffic to WP in the subdirectory...OR...
should I move index.php to the root, (delete the old index page) and massage the .htaccess page per instructions at http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory ?
Ideas? Much thanks.
People seem compelled to put WP in a subdirectory when there's nothing in their root. Why? Put it in the root if that's all you're going to have there. Just my two cents.
If it were me I would move the subdirectory above your root, re-download wordpress and unzip it into your root folder, so that wp-config.php is in your root folder. Then go back into your subdirectory and move the files you need like wp-config.php, themes, and plugins.
Just make sure you change the site and blog address in the database.
