    Hello WP community,

I just updated Crafty Social Buttons to Version 1.3.2, and the plugin crashed.

    This is my website: http://www.elementsofcinema.com/

The buttons were located under the search box and right above the Recently Published widgets on the right sidebar.

This is the message I am getting in the plugins page:

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
Sorry, AWeber Web Forms requires PHP 5.2 or higher. Please deactivate AWeber Web Forms.

I have no idea why this message mentions AWeber. But it pops up every time I attempt to activate Crafty Social Buttons.

I’m sorry I didn’t get more info from the log page. After trying to update CSB, I received a more detailed error message including the parse errors and infringing lines, but I can’t access that again.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

    Gabriel

    Hi Gabriel,

As a short term fix, you can go back to the previous version, available here: http://sarahhenderson.github.io/Crafty-Social-Buttons/downloads/crafty-social-buttons-1.3.1.zip.

Are you running PHP 5.2? I think one of the changes I made this time used something that is only available in PHP 5.3 and onwards. As PHP 5.2 has been obsolete since 2011, I haven’t tested that version. I will see if there is anything I can do to work around it though.

    Cheers,
    Sarah

    Hello 🙂
i have a crash too with this version (Excellent plugin by the way!).
it seems to have a problem in crafty-social-buttons/class-SH-Crafty-Social-Buttons-Shortcode.php on line 228 !
That’s what WordPress tell me when i want to activate the plugin.
Any idea about this error ?
thanks a lot for your help !
    Cheers,
    Anthony.

Anthony – Are you also running PHP 5.2?

I have just uploaded another version (1.3.3) which I think should fix this issue. Could either of you confirm whether that fixes the issue?

    Cheers,
    Sarah

    Hi Sarah !

    Hi Sarah,

I updated to PHP 5.4, but the same issue still occur: I am unable to activate the plugin. I can’t see the newest version (1.3.3) for download. Am I missing something?

Beautiful plugin indeed. Thank you so much for your work.

    Regards,
    Gabriel

    Hi Sarah,

I had to revert to PHP 5.3 due to some incompatibility (with other stuff). I updated Crafty Social Plugins to version 1.3.4, and it works beautifully.

    Thank you!

    Best,
    Gabriel

Awesome! Glad it is working properly now 🙂

    Hello,

I have 5.4.30 and I can’t downgrade because I’m on shared hosting. Can you re-upload version 1.3.3 or an earlier version since 1.3.4 won’t activate for me.

    Thanks.

    Hi Joel,

When you say you are on shared hosting, do you mean you don’t have FTP access to your server? I’m also on shared hosting, but I can still use FTP to upload a new version. Here is the direct link to 1.3.3: http://sarahhenderson.github.io/Crafty-Social-Buttons/downloads/crafty-social-buttons-1.3.3.zip.

Having said that – there are no differences between 1.3.3 and 1.3.4 that would stop the plugin activating. The difference is literally only that ajax requests for Facebook share counts return a number instead of a string.

Do you get any error messages when you try to activate it? I have sometimes found that a failed update of any plugin can cause the plugin to get ‘stuck’ (I get this a lot with WooCommerce and other big plugins). I usually find that deleting it completely and then reinstalling it fixes the problem (although the downside is losing all the plugin settings).

    Cheers,
    Sarah

Sorry, I meant to say that I have PHP 5.4.30 and can’t downgrade that because of shared hosting. I was able to use a backup of version 1.3.1 of the plugin and got it working again. I don’t receive any error messages other than that WP can’t activate the plugin. There are no PHP error logs generated either.

Hmm, quite odd that there’s nothing in the logs and no error message. But good that at least that version works for you.
