• I set up a WP blog for work. I’d like to be able to set up a separate section with my CV, etc. That’s easy enough to do, but here’s where it gets complicated: I’d like to be able to use a different theme for each of the two sections.

I tried installing another instance of WP in a subdomain, but it just overwrote my entire work blog, and I ended up having to wipe and reinstall. I’m hesitant to try anything too drastic, now. Anyone have any ideas how I could pull this off without paying for a second domain?

  • well, you I have many installs in subdomains/directories

as long as the files are in their own individual folders, and you either use separate mysql databases, OR different prefixes in the database when installing, you will be fine….

Should I reinstall WordPress to keep things separated? I think that might have been where things went wonky.

(My host has an easy-install option for WordPress, which is what I was using; do you think doing the install “by hand” would work out better?)

I always install by hand, that way I know where the files are going, and I know what DB is being used so none will be overwrote

you also have the options of using page templates to style some pages differently

Or child themes may be an option (although I’m not so familiar with them)

Depends just how you want to go about things, there is info in the codex on each for you if you’d like to check into them

    yep!

do a “hand” install for each blog. it’s very simple and safe.
