[resolved] "More" Tag Working Differently Under 1.5.1.2? (7 posts)

    Since I've updated to 1.5.1.2, I've noticed something different about how WordPress handles the "More" tag, and I need to know if it's something I've done, or if it's how WordPress is supposed to work now.

    In 1.5, clicking on the post title or the "Read more here" link would take me to the post page. If I clicked on the post title, I was shown the whole post. If I clicked on the "Read more here" link, I was taken to the bookmark on the post, right where the rest of the column continued after the "More" tag.

    In 1.5.1.2, clicking on the post URL or the "Read More Here" URL takes me to the post, which no longer contains my entire post, only the content AFTER the "More" tag.

    Is this caused by something I have done, or is this how the More tag is supposed to work, or is this a problem caused by my database and/or host? It's totally possible that I messed something up big time.

    Edited to add: I used the line

    the_content("Read more of" . the_title('"<strong>','</strong>"',false), 1);

    as described here to format my More tag. Probably that had something to do with it, maybe? But as far as I can see, it only affects the output of the "More" tag on the first page of the blog.

    Other than using the following line of code
    the_content("Read more of" . the_title('"<strong>','</strong>"',false), 1);

    did you rewrite any function/WP core files?

    Note that in WP 1.5.1.2, I verified that clicking "more" will still display the full post, even when using your custom "more" link

    Thank you, Alphaoide, for your response. I didn't change anything other than the content line as described above.

    Alphaoide, do you mean that you can see in the actual post, for example, the images and text that are displayed on the home page (before the "More" tag)? They used to be present in each post as well. I cannot see them and they do not appear in the post page's source code.

    When I read that statement, I thought it might be a browser problem, and I double-checked it in Mac Firefox and Mac Explorer (normally I use Safari). But all of the content before the "More" tag is missing on the actual post page.

    Is that the way it is supposed to work now?

    By full post I mean the content before and after the "more" tag (and I'm talking about my blog, not yours). I'll do some more debugging later. But try switching to Default Theme and check whether the issue persists or not.

    As my sons would say, "Well, duh!" Heh! Sorry!

    I just switched it to the Default theme and it is definitely working, so it must be the content line modification.

    Bummer! I really liked how it changed the output. I wasn't having much success formatting it the way I liked until I came across the quicktag modification page I mentioned above.

    Wait a sec, I use your custom "more" link and it works fine. So the problem is, I suppose, not the custom "more" link.

    Do the following items separately.
    1. Do you have single.php (Single Template), if not then index.php? Paste the content on the following site: http://pastebin.com
    2. I'm suspecting the permalink that you use. Can you disable it and check?

    Alphaoide, I think I figured it out. I was replacing the content line in all the pages, but the problem persisted until I changed it in the single.php page. I put the other content lines back (index.php, category.php, etc.) and left the single.php the way it was written, The Way God Meant It to Be, and now it works.
