monthly archive vs. entry date

    currently upgrading to wordpress 1.0; so far it looks very pretty! but i have a question about the format of the monthly archives versus the individual entry dates. for my entries, i would like to use the format “january 10, 2004” and on the sidebar the monthly archive would be 01 2004. what is the easiest way to do this? everything i’ve tried so far has either affected both or simply deleted the month altogether. (wonder how that happened.)
    any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!

    I want the date to show up on every entry, so I use “the_time(“F d, Y”)” to define first the date of the entry, and then reuse it to define the time of the entry.
    What seems to be happening is this… When I messed around with the wp-config-extra.php file, I changed the month settings. This is overriding both the archives and my “the_time” formatting. If I change anything in the wp-config-extra.php file, it changes the appearance of the month for archives and entries. Do the wp-config-extra settings hijack the default PHP setting somehow?

    Possibly; I’ve never changed them myself because I blog in English. The only reason I can think of for changing the months in wp-config-extra is if you need to translate them into another language.

    oh, i blog in english too, but i’ve always changed the archives links by messing with the wp-config-extra.php file because there seems to be no other way to do it. if someone would show me how to change the archive formatting without doing that, i would greatly appreciate it. i’m just not sure why thewp-config-extra change affects both the archives and the individual entries.

    From your admin menu, go to ‘Options’ and then ‘Other Options’. You’ll find the default settings there. Change the date format to however you want your archives displayed (oh! they’ve added a link to the php date formats in 1.0. That makes me happy.)
