modify the_excerpt (2 posts)

I didn't want 120 words in my the_excerpt and I found in wp-includes/functions-formatting.php where I could adjust the length.

When the_excerpt(); is run it puts a and a around the text. For specific formatting issues I don't want those tags around the excerpt. I have been looking everywhere but can't find in any of the wp files where to delete those tags when the_excerpt is called.

Does anyone know where to look to get rid of those tags?

    1) When you want to show code in a post, be sure to wrap it in backticks so folks aren't squinting at what you wrote trying to guess.

    2) For sanity sake, try to avoid modifying core files unless you like to re-modify them every time you upgrade. Oftentimes, you'll find a plugin that will help.

    3) Speaking of plugins, check out http://guff.szub.net/2005/02/26/the-excerpt-reloaded/ and see if this one will help.
