[edited topic title from “moderately frustrated” to VERY Frustrated newbie…nothing makes sense.]

Hi all. I was directed to WP as a way to get my site running. It’s a current site now – but unfinished. http://www.cultofangels.net.

I use a host that has a “quick install” option for WP – and did that. It asked me to “name my blog” and I chose “main” as the whole website will be rebuild using WP.

I figured out how to get to my dashboard, and the theme is the basic one it came with TwentyEleven 1.1

From here, I’m lost. When I click “visit page” I get taken to a parent directory page. http://www.cultofangels.net/main.

I’ve watched the tutorials – but they go from editing the sql rather than my quick install so I’m not sure what steps the hosts quick install option didn’t do accurately or what. How do I get the theme to come up under Main rather than the parent directory?

aRe there any SPECIFIC newbie pages that uses the simplest of language to explain? I have watched about 10 videos, read through this – searched for “newbie” and even read through the getting started. About halfway through all of it I’m completely lost because i didn’t perform the same steps.

Any help? I hear great things about WP, but at this point I’m wondering just what kind of rabbit hole have I slid into?

    deleted.

The theme is coming up under main, i.e. http://www.cultofangels.net/main/
Do you mean you want the blog to appear under the domain root, i.e. at http://www.cultofangels.net/ instead?

In which case, WordPress will have to over-write your existing site, so you should make a backup first before trying to install again.

Also, you might need to check with your webhost. Their quick-install for WordPress may have been set up to always install WordPress in a directory rather than the domain root.

Or maybe the part where you think it’s asking for your site name is actually asking for the location where you want to install your blog. So leaving it blank might work.

Sorry for the delay in response – I had my day job today. :/ darn work.

Ok, so after going through all the help I could find online – I just contacted my host. Turns out, something went a bit wonky during the install. Nothing I could have done would have fixed it.

I’m building the site under http://www.mydomain.net/main but will be changing it to the actual main site after I finish getting it ready.

This has been resolved and thank you for replying!
