Support » Fixing WordPress » "Modelling" a Twenty Eleven child from functions.php?

  • I’m trying to come up with a Twenty Eleven child theme.

One of the first issues that came to my attention was the fact that Twenty Eleven doesn’t have a sidebar on single.php, page.php etc. Now, for this, I found some tutorials in which I would have to copy from Twenty Eleven single.php, page. php and add get_sidebar() and then some extra code in the functions.php.

The thing is I don’t want to do that. Because I want my child theme to perform on the long term, without me having to make modifications to it each time WordPress decides to replace some code in Twenty Eleven. So, I’m wondering if I could build my child theme obly from functions.php.

I want to be able to know if I can create sidebars from functions.php, override headers of Twenty Eleven from this functions.php.

Could someone point me in the right direction?
