[resolved] Mobile Version Not Working with Child Theme (6 posts)

    Hi,
    I am a new user of Preference lite and I really love it. However, I have a problem with the way it look on mobile (iphone) after I uploaded a child theme (https://mygotoadmin.com/)-that's my website. It shrunks horizontally. I don't know how to take a screenshot to show it to you but you can try it on your phone to see what I meant.

    Also, how am I going to use the "Boxed" style instead of full width screen container. The Boxed style seems to go away when I use the child theme. It's okay though if I use the parent theme.

    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
    Lyn

    Hi Lyn, sorry for late reply...Anyway, I loaded your site into my iphone. I see what you mean, but I have a feeling it's because you changed the theme containers (or did you?), which the default layout is the boxed style.

    However, you mentioned you used a child theme, but did you create your own or did you get the one from my theme setup tutorials for Preference Lite?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the response. I appreciate it.

    I didn't change the containers.

    I did create my own child theme cause I didn't know that there is a tutorial for Preference Lite. Could you give me the link to the tutorial please?

    That's probably the reason why I cannot also change the colors of the background of the sub-menu (It's defaulted to light blue) no matter how I try to change it to a different color.

    By the way, I really like the theme so I will get the Pro version as soon as we launched the site.

    Thanks!

    For the child theme, you can get it here:
    http://www.styledthemes.com/preference-lite-setup/83-modify-your-theme-using-child-themes-is-recommended

    Try that out and see how things go for you. For the submenu background, there is another tutorial about that too:
    http://www.styledthemes.com/preference-lite-setup/104-change-the-submenu-background

    Regarding the Pro version of Preference, you are definitely welcome to get that, but just a quick note that it's not a "direct" upgrade for the Lite version. Although I have never tried replacing the files of the Lite with the Pro. Generally you would install the Pro as a separate theme, then of course you would have to redo the theme options. The child theme for the Pro is also different from the child theme for this Lite version.

    Hi,
    Thanks so much! I was able to upload the child theme lite and it looks good to mobile now.
    However, I keep trying to change the sub menu background using the instructions link provided above but it still does not change it. This is what I have entered in my Preference child theme:

    .mainmenu ul li:hover > ul {
    background-color: #006600;}

    What am I missing? I'm new to CSS so I'm not sure if the code is correct.

    Thanks again!

    first, glad the child theme part worked, but for the submenu, you will need to add the submenu classes for that gradient background tutorial in the child theme as well to override the parent theme styling (which is why you are still seeing it unchanged).

    .mainmenu ul li:hover > ul { /* second level half rounded */

    }

    ....and of course any other adjustments you want to bring over into the child theme's style.css and modify.
