    I am new to the WordPress theme game so I have a question about why my posts display in a mobile format when I have Twentyeleven selected as my default theme but not when my child theme is selected. In fact, my child theme becomes completely distorted and squished to about 300px when displayed in a mobile browser.

  • a certain change in layout will occur on narrow browsers such as mobile phones;

    what is the difference between when you use the unedited Twenty Eleven compared to when you use the child theme?

    please post a link, because without seeing your site live, nobody will be able to comment on your problem.

    thanks for the response! Here is the link: emugermanalumni.org/wordpress

    With an unedited twentyeleven layout, mobile browsers display a nice single-column layout with a listing of recent posts and categories. As you’ll see, the child theme displays the regular homepage in mobile browsers but it is very distorted.

    the main problem is with the new introduced fixed width in the #access styles; the rest is as I would expected it (viewed in a narrow browser, not an actual iphone).

    you could try to restrict parts of the responsive behaviour; for a starting point possibly see my old article, or related topics here in the forum.
