I want to have this structure:

    TopLevelPage
    PostCategory1 | PostCategory2 | PageA | PageB
    2011 | 2012 | …

TopLevelPage is a standard Page and has been selected as the Posts Page in Settings->Reading.
PostCategory1 and PostCategory2 are categories of posts.
PageA and PageB are standard pages.
    2011 | 2012 should be per-category year archives

    First problem – Permalinks.
    /TopLevelPage/PageA is fine.
/TopLevelPage/PostCategory1 cannot be used due to permalink collision. Instead it is /PostCategory1 or /CategoryBase/PostCategory1
Having /PostCategory1 as a Page with a custom query on instead would solve the permalink there, but when clicking through to a single post the problem would come back. Any help?

Second problem – /TopLevelPage/PostCategory1/2012 should be all the posts in that category from that year. However it doesn’t happen automatically. WP auto creates /2012, but that is posts from all categories. Does WP auto create year per category archives?
Is it best to have these as Pages with a custom query instead?

I would really appreciate any help with either of these issues!

Anyone got any ideas? I’m really stuck here…

    To simplify this a bit:

    News
    JournalistsPage | NewsCategory1 | NewsCategory2

With this structure, how do you deal with the permalinks?
    JournalistsPage gets /News/JournalistsPage
But the categories can’t have /News/NewsCategory1 (as far as I can tell).
Also, Posts cannot be /News/NewsCategory1/Post either.

Any ideas on how to deal with this??

    Thanks,
    P
