• I want the left nav to do this

    Page
    -sub Page
    -sub Page
    -category
    -category
    —sub category
    Page
    -sub Page
    -sub Page
    -category
    -category

    I read: http://www.transycan.net/blogtest/2007/07/26/pages-and-categories/
which describes how to put in the nav:

    Home
    Page
    Page
    Page
    Page
    category
    category
    category

Is there a way to mix them like I want? or do I need to hard code them- meaning- then they will not dynamically add to the nav when I create new pages and cats?

    Thanks.

So no one has ever wanted pages and sub-categories to be mixed in a nav under a category? No one has solved this issue? it is not possible to have a fixed page that is included in a category? you can only have a nav with pages then a nav with categories? no site have ever mixed them?

If someone has – I would love to know how.

I found your post trying to solve the same problem, with a one tier nav. You might find this guide useful, Lorelle is using it for footers but the exclude / include idea and tags are the same for main nav.http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2007/09/30/customizing-your-wordpress-theme-footer/

this has to go in your header.php file and it means some tweaking but it can be done. you are basically saying load or don’t load a post or page by ID number. This means you need to make the post and pages, get the ID numbers, (if you have default permalinks set its will give the number when you go the the page, ie cat=7 or page_id=4 at the end of the url string. Then use those numbers in Lorelle’s examples.

    good luck! – kurt
