Hi,

have just upgraded to 3.1 but am having the same problem as many others with the vanishing visual editor. So far I have tried removing the plugins one by one and switching on/off the “disable visual editor” option from user profile. What else can I try?

am using version 3.1 on google chrome.

    thankyou

broken for me across all broswers.

I’ve tried the disable visual editor, its not that.

Has to be something specific to the 3.1 update because I have other sites running 3.0x and the visual editor is perfectly fine on the same machine with very similar plugins….

    hoping for a fix!

    Have you tried:

    – checking through Troubleshooting WordPress 3.1 – Master List

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

I posted on another of these links ( a lot of howling going on, so this is not an isolated problem) and said that I had, indeed, worked with the plug-ins as you had advised. I’ll try these other things, and replacing the wp-admin and – wait. What other folder? includes, I think. This makes me tired. It’s stupid, but I take WordPress very personally.

Try re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

Yes, ma’am. (can a diva be a guy?) I will do so.

Why not? Not that I am, I hasten to add…

Ah. See what a useful person you are?

Whoa. I’ve been gone, and I just got back and was answering some comments on my post. Followed a couple of links to other blogs – return arrowed to my last “edit post” screen – and SAW MY POST in the visual. Just for a second. Then it disappeared again, and there was this sort of beige area at the top of the composition field. Then that disappeared, and my blog is here. And all the style buttons are back. It all just snapped in. And I hadn’t done ANYTHING. Nothing but turn off one of the plug-ins that I’d already turned off once before with no effect. And I’d done that an hour ago.

I am a little freaked out. We’ll see if it comes up again when I ask it to. If it doesn’t after it did, I’m going to call in somebody to cast out a nasty spirit.

Yeah. It’s gone. Why would it do that? It wasn’t in the cache. I didn’t change anything after it appeared. But it’s not there. So today I’ll try the things you told me to do.

    gone here as well 🙁

happening in all browsers and for all my wordpress sites (which have all been upgraded to 3.1)

Really hope this can be fixed soon 🙁

I’ve had the same weird editor is there for a second and then disappears symptoms, and also if I click on the visual editor option button i get

appear in the window and stuff, it’s very goofy.

Okay. Tried the FTP plugins reset.

    No go.

Have you tried switching to Twenty Ten? Something is definitely interfering with TinyMCE.
