Support » Fixing WordPress » Missing Sidebar on Posts

  • I am new to Wordress and somewhat new to HTML, so forgive me ahead of time if I’m asking silly questions. I looked around the forums and checked on similar problems but couldn’t find an answer that would work.

I cannot get my sidebar to show up on my Single Posts, nor my “pages” with groups of post summaries.

    The site is http://www.gymoptional.com

Here’s a link to the only post I’ve written so far: http://www.gymoptional.com/2011/10/28/80-20-rule-and-fitness/

I looked in the the single.php as well as the index.php for “<?php get_sidebar(); ?>” and it appeared to be correct in both (from what I’ve read, this was the solution).

    I’m really at a loss.

Thanks in advanced for your help and patience.

  • Since this is a commercial theme with its own functionalities and support system, I recommend you contact the theme developer for assistance:

Thanks zoonini. However, I’ve tried repeatedly and they won’t help. I’d have to re-register (which has a fee) and wouldn’t be guaranteed they’d respond.

    Anyone else have any ideas?

no one can view/troubleshoot the code in that theme unless they have purchased it, so you are locked into relying on the theme vendor for support.

I did purchase it. So you’re saying without giving someone access to my account, nobody can look at it?

I’m guessing there’s a market for people I could pay to help me?

UNRELATED: Can one make pages “commentable”?

You purchased it so you have access to the code, however most (probably a number very close to 100%) of people on this forum will not have access to the code as they have never purchased it. If the vendor has decided to only offer short term support with a recurring fee for continued support, that is one option of how to solve your issue.

Another option might be to cut your losses and replace your theme with a similar free GPL theme from the free themes directory which can be looked at by forum members as anyone can down it, or a commercial GPL theme from a vendor who offers support more in line with what you would consider reasonable.

Yet another option if you want to stick with your current theme, but want independent help would be to hire a freelancer by posting a job at jobs.wordpress.net.

Stopping now sounds very inimidating to me.

    What is a GPL theme?

    Moderator cubecolour

    (@numeeja)

GPL is the GNU General Public License & is the license that WordPress is under.

    http://wordpress.org/about/gpl/

All of the free themes on this site in the theme directory and the themes offered by the commercial vendors listed on this site are GPL compatible.

cubecolour – Thanks so much for all the help you’re giving me. At the risk of being annoying, I have another question: how likely do you think it is that I could find a them similar to my current theme? I looked and looked until I found exactly what I was after. I’d hate to part too much from it.

If you do want to start with a new theme, You can do a lot with a free theme such as coraline or pilcrow if you can tweak it a little.

I have a favourite theme framework one of the vendors listed in the commercial vendors area, which I use a lot from. I am sure there are several others that would also be suitable though. It probably wouldn’t be appropriate for me to recommend a specific vendor here on the forum, but have a look at the themes they offer and look at how they conduct their support. I would suggest that you don’t get too hung up on getting the site looking exactly like the first version & take the opportunity to improve on what you have.

    Do you freelance?

Also, I’m assuming if I found the right freelancer, I could show them my current site, and ask them to pick the closest theme out there and make it look like my current site?

I’m afraid it’s one of the rules of this site that offers of paid work are not discussed on the forum. http://codex.wordpress.org/Forum_Welcome

You can post a job at jobs.wordpress.net.

Thanks for all your help cubecolour. You!Joomla has finally started returning my inquiries. If they can’t help, I’ve got quite a few candidates from the job posting.

    Thanks again.
