"Missing or invalid site address" error (3 posts)

Everything *was* working fine -- but now all of a sudden I get a "Missing or invalid site address" error when I try to add a site (I've already created many dozens of sites with no problem).

I've changed a couple things recently -- about a week or 2 ago I updated mapping via the backend (without realizing that this was a no-no)... and then I just updated sunrise.php manually + I created "mu-plugins" and moved domain_mapping.php into it (I had not done this originally).

It seemed to work OK, but I guess I must have screwed something up after all (?)

I am really stuck, confused, whatever...

    :/

umm... and I also added some plugins (tried deactivating them to see if there was some kind of conflict, but apparently not) -- Login configurator + More privacy options...

ah, I think maybe I might have figured it out -- before I had domain mapping (mistakenly) running in plugins (not mu-plaugins), and now that I've changed it, it won't accept some names (with hyphens)... as described in http://wordpress.org/support/topic/site-address-subdomain-problem-missing-or-invalid-site-address

So, what is the best way forward? I really want to keep hyphens in my naming convention, because they make life so much simpler.
