I'm trying to get my container to run as long as my actual blog, but unless I set my page height to a large number (since one of my content pages is much longer than the main page, and therefore leaving a large amount of white space below my blog), the text stretches down into my brown background without the white part following. Firefox is the only browser I'm having a problem with. It works fine in IE.

I've tried changing my doctype and making height and min-height 100%. Any other ideas?

You could try setting a maximum height for an outer div and then using a height: 100%; CSS style to try to scale it accordingly.

you may need to try using Faux Columns if that fits your needs.

Are faux columns my only option?
