   In the mingle login widget, there is a Directory link under the username and password textbox, but there is no link for signing up a new account.

   Would you mind to add a new link to signup page or just replace the Directory link with Signup link?

   The link to register in in the widget just not really large letters. its below the login dialog

   Out of curiosity, did you enable registrations on your site?
   wp Admin panel -> Settings -> General -> Anyone can register
