[resolved] Migrating to a clean install (3 posts)

Does anyone have any advice or a link to a good article on migrating a WordPress site to a new clean install of WordPress?

I started a new install from scratch and I'm installing the same plugins, etc...but I don't want to restore everything from the old database. Can I simply import certain tables from the existing database that contain some plugin data and my pages/posts and then any static content necessary?

The hosting platform my site is on now has a lot of special paths built into the DB and lots of different file permissions, so I'd rather just start over clean as possible without adding everything back in manually. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

These are instructions for moving from wordpress.com but it pretty much applies:

Assuming you have a registered domain

    1. Get a hosting account and ask them for the correct name server info
    2. Visit your domain registrar and point your domain's name server to your host
    3. Wait for your domain to resolve properly (2 to 48 hours)
    4. Install WordPress at your domain (see Installing WordPress)
    5. At your wordpress.COM blog do Administration > Tools > Export
6 At your domain's newly installed WordPress do Administration > Tools > Import->WordPress using file from step 5

Great, thanks -- been using WordPress for a while and never even noticed that option! Working on it now.
