Support » Fixing WordPress » Migrated Site Can't post?

  • I migrated my site from one server to a new one. The new one is a Rackspace cloud site.

I can view my site fine. I can log into my site fine. I can change any option or setting, themes, plugins.

I cannot create a new post. I don’t get an error message but when I try to either save the draft or publish (any of the buttons inside of create new post) it just returns me to the post overview page. (A list of all past posts).

    Any suggestions…

Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Default theme (WordPress 1.5 – 2.9.2) or the Twenty Ten theme (WordPress 3.0 and higher) to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme function can affect the Dashboard).

Good suggestion but it didn’t make a difference.

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Ok tried that.

No luck. I did it as you suggested and deleted everything and reuploaded.

I have actually done this twice just to be safe.

This blog is very old, it has been around for a long time probably through pre version 1 wordpress. Is it possible there is some garbage in the database that is now causing an issue.

I suppose that you may need to repair the database.

Access your WordPress database via phpMyAdmin (most hosting providers offer this in their control panel), check all of the tables, and choose “Repair tables” from the pull-down menu.

So far no luck. I have confirmed that I can for sure edit an existing post but still unable to create a new one.

When i’m looking at my overall post list, is do see something strange.

All (900), Published (899) I can’t find the one that isn’t published maybe this is causing the issue?

That’s possible. Do you have still have access to the database on the old server? Can you try backing it up and restoring it again?
