Something strange is happening with my meta descriptions. It seems to be populating the meta tag with the description, followed by the code entered in the settings for the page title.

Have a look at this page: http://www.jhskincareclinic.co.uk/product/serenite-gentle-silk-cleanser/

The description on this post is “An ultra-mild cleansing milk perfect for all skin types, especially sensitive and delicate skin types.” which is entered in the excerpt field. The title setting for this post type is %post_title% | %blog_title% | %blog_description%

The meta description being written is

<meta name="description" content="An ultra-mild cleansing milk perfect for all skin types, especially sensitive and delicate skin types. | %page_title% | JH Skincare Clinic | Facial, Acne, Anti-ageing & Grooming Treatments in South London" />

Post type is supplied by the WooCommerce plugin.

    Thanks

Strike that, I’ve just found the cause.

When I went through all of the title settings to add the %blog_description% I failed to notice that they’re not all titles – the 3rd from last is the description format!

I noticed because I found “reset general settings to defaults” at the very bottom of the settings page and thought to give it a go. Of course, I then had to go through them all to re-add %blog_description%

In the words of America’s greatest philosopher: “D’OH!”

That would indeed do it! Glad it wasn’t a bug…
