Hello,
I attempted to edit the permalinks on my site at treotown.com and now for some reason the catagories and comments aren't working. I tried to switch everything back but I don't exactly know how. Advice is GREATLY appreciated.

Could you give us a link to your site, perhaps? Maybe also the permalink structure that's not working?

http://www.treotown.com/ I'm guessing that's your site.
If you didn't have anything other than permalink stuff in your .htaccess file, just delete it, create a blank one, upload the blank one, and let WP take care of everything again. I'd think that should be able to fix it.

Posted 7 years ago #Thanks for the quick response. I tried uploading a blank .htaccess file with no luck. I actually hadn't modified the previous .htaccess file, only the Permalinks in the Admin interface. I had previously changed the setting to:
/%day%/%postname%/but when I noticed the links stopped working I changed it back to what I thought was the default:
/archives/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/
I'm actually not 100% sure that was the cause of the problem... I also tried to drop the Kubrik skin on the blog, but it didn't look right so I replaced those files. Do you think that might have caused it?

I do not use .htaccess or mod_rewrite. They are a pain in that they have arcane syntax and even the slightest modification can block access to your site.You can check my solution on permalinks. Also I have just now posted a comment further simplifying the permalink issue.
