Merge or submerge?

Situation is as follows.

My family has a total of 5 WordPress sites. That means 5 people having 5 different databases, 5 different themes. I have read about this new “multi-user” function that would allow for people to login into one wordpress – but still have all their bell’s and whistles. How hard or what is involved in moving/ merging the 5 sites into one multi-user site? Are there any tutorials or documentation I can grab online?

Possibly the ‘best’ way would be to turn one site (yours?) into multisite, and then import all the other sites. You may have to create their user IDs again, since merging that has always been … iffy at best, but it should be pretty straight-forward export/import.

Depends on your skill level. 😉 I mean that honestly. If you install WP via fantastico and only ever use internal point & click functions to install plugins and themes, it’s hard. If the sight of the db leaves you in a faint, it’s hard.

FWIW, I did this with my domain and my mom’s blog, then more family joined in after the network was set up. THAT might be the real fun part. 😀

I install via the download and host on my on box here at home. Also testing in virtual box – so my ability to play is there. I will check out the links. I was looking for the quickest and easiest way.

Quick & easy is using the internal Export/Import under the tools menu.
