• In the Menus page under Appearance, menu-item hierarchy is not displayed. Here’s a screenshot.

Architecture, Communications Design, etc are all children of Student Work, and they appear so on the front end of the site, but they are not indented when I edit the menu. This gets very confusing because it’s very easy to make, for example, Communications Design a child of Architecture by accident and not see it until the page is live.
If I drag a parent to move it, all the children will appear indented under it until I release it.

The menus page is even more glitchy in Chrome (I have to use Firefox if I want to move menu items). In Chrome, whenever I pick up a menu item, it moves down one spot on the list. It won’t let me move it up.

I would update wordpress to the latest version, but the site is sort of part of a great bureaucracy or permissions and stuff, so it’d be somewhat of a hassle.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Why are you using an old copy of WordPress? Were you aware that your site is currently running a very real risk of being hacked? You need to upgrade WordPress asap.

I wasn’t aware of the security risk. I’ll try to get the site upgraded, and then I’ll try the rest of the suggestions. Thanks!

So I updated to the latest version of wordpress and the menu page still doesn’t show indents, but it does indicate which are “sub-items” and has options for changing the hierarchy and moving items up and down with links rather than dragging and dropping.

I looked at the plugins and I think deactivating them would cause problems with the site, so I am going to just leave the situation as it is now.
