   I've just upgraded my site tonight from WPMU 2.9.2.2 to WP(MS) 3.0 and I've noticed a few things that I'm not sure if they're intentional or not. Incidentally, I'm running BP 1.2.4 too, but I don't think that should have an effect.

   1. Menus: Neither Super-Admins nor regular users are able to see the "Menus" submenu listed underneath "Appearance".

   2. Import: Underneath "Tools >> Import" only the Super-Admins have access to the blog importer tools. When logged as a Super-Admin I see options for Blogger, Blogroll, Categories and Tags Converter, LiveJournal, Movable Type adn TypePad, RSS, and WordPress.

   But when I log in as a regular user all I see in "Tools >> Import" is:
   

   If you have posts or comments in another system, WordPress can import those into this site. To get started, choose a system to import from below:

   No importers are available.

   What role do your "regular users" have assigned to them?

   1. Menus: Check your theme to make sure it supports the new menus. See the register_nav_menu() page in the Codex for more info.

   2. Import: Super-admins and admins are the only ones with sufficient privileges to import content. Editors, Authors, Contributors, Subscribers do not have those privileges so they shouldn't even be seeing the Import link.

   When talking about menus and imports I'm only referring to users who have their own blogs on the WPMS install.

   1. Menus: Gotcha, thanks.

   2. Import: But is that the correct functionality for blog imports? Previously on our WPMU site each user could import their old blog posts from other services into their new blog on the WPMU site... but now they aren't even presented with that options?

   What would be the correct work-around this?

   ... and they pulled the importers so you need to add them back via plugin.

   Odd... cause they're still included for Super Admins. Is there some line to remove manually in the core files somewhere I wonder?

   Right, you see them because you upgraded. ;)

   @kpdesign - can you confirm that a regualr administrator can see the importers when running a network?

   I just checked my multisite dev install. Super-admin sees the list of importers available to be downloaded. However, a regular administrator sees this:

   If you have posts or comments in another system, WordPress can import those into this site. To get started, choose a system to import from below:

   No importers are available.

   In looking at import.php, it sets this conditional before the list of importers is displayed:

   if ( current_user_can('install_plugins') )

   Single WordPress allows the admin to install plugins, but multisite isn't allowing admins to install plugins, only activate/deactivate the plugins that a super-admin has already installed and made available.

   Since the importers are now plugins, that explains why an admin can't see any importers - SA has to install them first.

   I'm gonna call this a bug, since part of the point in running a network and allowing people to sign up involved, you know, letting them import their content....

   I agree, admins should be able to import content. First fallout from removing the importers from core....

    Okay, spent some time with this. You really do need ot install the plguin and network activate it, even if as a Super Admin you see importers.

    When logged in as an administrator of another site, I did see the WordPress importer after I installed the plugin.

    But not before, when I could see a list of importers as a super Admin.

    Gah, subtle message there. the screen still looks the same for super admins, so if you glance quick, you may not notice it says "install the..." and each link is to download the plugin. gotta do that first.

    Same here, upgraded from wpmu 2.9.2 and wordpress importer doesn't work. (logged in as Super Admin)

    When I go to Tools > Import, a message pops up that I need to install the importer. And when I click Install Now button, the install fails.

    Destination folder already exists.
    /example.com/html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-importer/

    Plugin install failed.

    It says the plugin exists, but I can't confirm it under list of plugins.

    Update:
    To fix this problem, delete wordpress-importer folder via FTP and run the auto install from the import page, or via plugin page. Make sure to activate sitewide.

    Update:
    When you reinstall the plugin, maximum import file size shows 0. But you can actually import .xml size more than 0MB. For some reason, WordPress doesn't fetch max upload size.

    I have wordpress 2.9 and the importer under my tools doesn't work.

    It only shows:

    "If you have posts or comments in another system, WordPress can import those into this blog. To get started, choose a system to import from below:"

    But no systems show. I have tried downloading plugins like wordpress importer, wpmu-new-blog-default-import but nothing helps even reinstalled wordpress 2.9 but to no avail please please could someone assist me.

    Very SImple goto SUper Admin >> Options >> on options page see in the last "Enable administration menus" check box, just click on the check box and save. now regular user>> goto plugin activate the importer.. ENJOY.
