Twenty Fourteen
menu-toggle shows text in Android 2.3.6 (15 posts)

When visiting twentyfourteendemo.wordpress.com with Android 2.3.6 (a Samsung Ace 2 from a friend of mine) the menu-toggle shows the text „Primary Menu“. Same results with other twenty fourteen example sites. Visiting those sites with iOS 7.0.4 (iPhone 4S) shows a regular menu-toggle (without text).

For test purpose, I replaced (in a child theme of course) <h1 class="menu-toggle"><?php _e( 'Primary Menu', 'twentyfourteen' ); ?></h1> in line 52 of the header.php with
    <h1 class="menu-toggle"></h1>

It works, but I'm not sure, if it's the correct way doing it. Any idea, how to fix it better?

  2. Hi there,

    1) What browser are you using on that Android phone, including the version number?

    2) Could you provide a screenshot of what you're seeing on that Android phone?

Here's a guide on how to make a screenshot, if you're not sure: http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/

You can upload the screenshot - in a graphic format like JPG, PNG, or PDF - in your Media Library, and provide a link so I can see it, or upload it with a service like Droplr or Imgur.

Hi, thanks for your answer. I will look for the browser and version number as soon as possible, it is not my phone.

Despite numerous instructions I could not make a screenshot, but I took a regular shot with my phone last week: http://i.imgur.com/rVpXKMW.png

The browser on the android phone is called "Internet", version number is 2.3.6

  5. Hi there, thanks very much for the screenshot.

Would you mind please checking the Twenty Thirteen demo on that phone as well?

It's possible that the Android web browser does not support the CSS "clip" property. Knowing whether you see the same thing on another theme using the same piece of CSS will help confirm that. Thanks very much!

I am experiencing the same problem on my Android Galaxy S3. Twenty-Thirteen and a variety of websites I have built off of Twenty Thirteen USED to work on my android browser and now, all of a sudden, they don't. My phone updated within the last month so I can only assume it must have been a change made with that update that is causing it to not work anymore.

  7. junelily - do you see the same issue on the demo here?

The original poster never came back to confirm.

Sorry, I forgot to answer. The twentythirteendemo looks like this http://imgur.com/G5sWDQe and it seems to be ok.

  9. junelily - could you provide:

    - a screenshot of what you're seeing on your Android phone
    - the exact browser and version you're using? Full instructions are above.
    - links to one or two of the affected sites

  12. anx - could you please tell me whether you see the menu-toggle text on the Twenty Thirteen demo as well?

  13. Thanks for everyone's reports on the Twenty Fourteen issue in Android. I've submitted a Core Trac ticket for the issue:

    https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/27456

If you'd like to follow its progress, click the "Watch this ticket" button in the Notifications box.

junelily - if you're having issues with Twenty Thirteen on Android, could you make a separate post in the Twenty Thirteen forum:
    http://wordpress.org/support/theme/twentythirteen
Please include screenshots and which OS version and browser you're running. Thanks.

    Cool, thanks!

  15. The issue with the menu toggle in older versions of the Android browser has been fixed and the update will be included in the next version of Twenty Fourteen.
