    My menu on my web page has suddenly started to show META (I didn't add it)a box TITLED META, and this has sub menus whch are :
    Site Admin
    Log out
    Valid XHTML
    XFN

    How do I remove this from the front page?

    this is possibly a default output of the sidebar.php code, if you don't use actual widgets in dashboard - appearance - widgets.

    drag a widget of your choice into the sidebar widget ares, and the META should disappear.

    if not, it might help if you can post a link to your site to illustrate the problem.

    if you need to remove this META for specific pages only, try to use a plugin for conditional widgets: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=conditional+widget

    I got the site reloaded to a previous back up from the web hoster, seems OK now.

    there is no hardcoded META section in sidebar.php of your theme;

    however there seem to be two different widget areas - try to change the 'Sidebar Blog' area.

    or possibly try and replace sidebar.php with a fresh copy;

    EDIT: you were faster - well done.
