• Hi, I am new to wordpress and having just got my site setup the Page options at the top of the menu have gone all odd. ( see ; http://www.thecityquarter.com ) You will notice that I have my page “About CQ” which is fine but then there is an empty space where a page should be that says “No Categories” that is blacked out. This is not an actual page and I dont know how to get rid of this ? Help please ????

  • Your current theme is designed to show each of your category pages as links in the top nav. If you intend to publish posts and have at least 1 category, don’t worry about this. It will disappear as soon as your first post is published.

If you don’t intend to publish any posts, you’ll need to edit one of theme’s template files (possibly header/php) and remove <?php wp_list_categories('title_li=');?>.

Hi, I have published a number of posts, but this is still the same ? If I delete the <?php wp_list_categories(‘title_li=’);? does this not then stop me using the ability of the blog for future posts ? Thanks in advance for your help

Ok, I have taken out that line which has worked – thanks, and further posts seem to be ok. Is there anything I need to be aware of that may be detrimental to the site by removing this line ? Thanks again for our help. Nick

Your individual category links are all listed on the vertical sidebar, so you don’t really need them on the top nav as well. Especially given that you already have quite a few categories, so the links would almost certainly line-wrap right off that top nav area (it’s fixed height at only 31px high). In your shoes, I’d just have pages listed on the top nav as it is now. It works quite well.
