In my menu I want "History" to be listed first then "Anouncements" but when I call up the site menu it shows "Announcements" first then "History." How can I correct this to have "History" came first then "Announcements"

    Hello,

Under Appearance > Menus in your WordPress admin, you should be able to drag the menu items into the order you require, assuming your menu has been created with the menu system, and is not "hardcoded".

Thanks Ross. I guess I didn't explain my problem clearly. The menu order is correct but when I go to the site "Announcements" comes up first and then the "History" follows. I'm trying to get the History to be the first page and Announcements the second page to show in order. Any suggestions.

    I see. That's odd.

Could you provide a link to a page of your site that exhibits the issue?

    perryionic.org.

When the site comes up the first page is "Announcements" then "History"
I would like "History to come up first then "Announcements"

Ross, I'm a newby with WordPress and I like it very much but it takes some getting used to it so please bear with me. Thanks!

Ah, ok, I think I understand.

It looks like your "Announcements" and "Our History – Current Officers" pages are actually posts, not pages. Posts appear in date order, newest first. Your "Announcements" post was created most recently, so appears first.

To change the order you can adjust the published date of the posts by clicking the "Edit" link next to "Published on..." (just above the "Publish" / "Update" button).

However, you might be better off making the posts into "proper" pages (at Pages > Add new). You could then add them to the menu as required, and select one of them to be the homepage by going to Settings > Reading, then choosing "A static page" from the "Front page displays" option, selecting the page required from the "Front page" drop-down box.

Thanks Ross, I'm trying to follow your instructions but find them confusing. Being a novice I will have to try to figure them out. Unfortunately I have to leave the computer for the rest of the day. Could I get in touch with you later to follow up?
    Jim

Thank you Ross Haney for your help. On my website the second page "Announcements " has attached itself to my first page "History/Officers". How can I correct this. I would like each page to be called up from the menu.

    Hi again,

As I mentioned previously, what you're referring to as pages are actually posts.

To set things up as you describe, I think you'll need to do the following:

    1. Create two new pages (Pages > Add new). One called "Announcements", one called "History/Officers" (you should be able to copy/paste the existing text from your posts, but might need to re-insert the images)
    2. Once you've published the pages, go to Appearance > Menus
    3. On the left on the screen, you should see a several "meta-boxes", one of which is called "Pages". Tick the checkboxes next to the names of the pages you've just created, the click "Add to menu"
    4. Your pages will appear as menu items in the main section of the screen. You can re-order them by dragging them up / down, if required. Click "Save menu" when you're finished

You should then have two separate pages, with two separate entries in the menu.

To make one of these pages the home page, do the following:

    1. Go to Settings > Reading
    2. Set the "Front page displays" option to "A static page"
    3. Select the page you want to be the home page from the drop-down box
    4. Click "Save changes"

It's probably then a good idea to delete your original posts, to avoid confusion.
