• Since WordPress version 3.8.3, my menu’s are being deleted on their own, not the menu’s themselves but all the contents of them.

So if I go into the Appearance > Menu’s, I can select the menu’s in the dropdown but all of them are empty. We’ve already gone back in and set them all back up before only to find, they’ve all been removed again.

This is seriously driving us mad now as lack of links to pages on our site will wreck havoc with regards to our indexed status in search engines.

    * There are no errors in the error logs.
    * There is only one account with administrative access which is only accessible by me currently.
    * Our site is built on the bones theme boilerplate.

Any ideas why/how on earth this is happening?

  • Have you repaired your database recently? It does sound like a db issue to me.

I hadn’t no, I’ve just repaired all the tables now but most tables report that the storage engine doesn’t support repair.

So there was only about 5 tables that were repaired and only one of those is a default WordPress table (wp_posts).

    Thanks.

I reinstated the menu’s when I last posted here and currently, they are still in place. Will continue to update.

Okay so overnight, this just happened again.

So repairing the database didn’t fix the issue…

Anyone able to shed any light on how/why this is happening?

    I wonder…

Yesterday evening I restarted my browser and this always has at least 20 tabs open, some of which on the frontend and backend pages of the WordPress site. I’m wondering if this problem is only occurring when the browser tabs relaunch various WP admin URL’s somehow.

This is becoming a major problem now – and there are other WordPress sites experiencing the same issue. Keeping a detailed record at WordPress SE.

I’m sorry but this definitely seems to be site/server specific.

We’ve run many WordPress sites on the same server without issue. This also only started happening after 3.8.3 – never once experienced the problem prior even with the same site.

It could well be site specific sure, but it’s just completely random – I’ve no idea how to even debug this. 🙁

My gut instinct still suggests, to me, that’s it’s a problem with the database. Can you try creating a fresh install and then importing the content from the old site to the new one using Tools ->Export/Import? Don’t try a db import as that might copy over corruption from the old db to the new one.

Never used that tool before, good call – will give this a try.

We did replicate the site on a sub domain for debugging purposes but I exported the database in phpmyadmin – sure enough, menu items are being deleted randomly (at different times to the live site) as well.

Will give this a go and wait to see if it happens again – thanks for the suggestion.

No problem. Do let me know how it goes. If you continue to have problems, I’ll try and round up a few more people to pitch in ideas.
