[resolved] Menu for pages used for articles (3 posts)

I run a website for homeschoolers that contains many articles that I'd like to remain static, but I'll also be blogging some content. I was using Joomla for years and was hacked twice when I didn't keep up with upgrades *immediately* so this is one reason I'd like to switch to WP but I don't know if a site with so much static content is the right fit here.

The articles AND the blog posts will--or can--all fall within the same named categories. What I'd like to do is have my most important, static articles always listed at the TOP of the list of posts within their category and the blogged posts listed below those (according to date, I assume).

Will this work or should I create pages, rather than posts, for my "timeless" articles? My main issue is design, actually. I like the LOOK of how Categories are displayed on most templates and if I create pages (and subpages?) for my articles, it seems like those headings will always be listed in the rather boring bar menu where pages like About, Contact, etc. are found. Is that correct? Any suggestions? I hope I've explained the structure I'm going for OK...if not I can try again. LOL

    Thanks!

Can't attest to Joomla security, but WordPress does have security updates that will require your attention! But those don't have to be painful if you don't modify core files.

So with that said, Pages are not assigned categories. If you want you can put both categories and Pages in your navigation using this technique.

Some themes offer two navigation bars, one for categories, one for Pages. You can use Page templates to display static pages and then provide a list of posts in a particular category. You can also use a plugin to provide the same ability. See A Page of posts example and the List category posts plugin.

Also, the coming version 3.0 has 'Menu Management' that will allow themes to provide easy to create/manage navigation menus.

Thank you! This helps me to have a starting point and has given me some solid ideas.
