I'd like to move to another host (from 1and1). I've seen some good reviews of MediaTemple, but I just wanted to check here to see what people think. I'm also considering DreamHost, but I don't like the fact that they don't have phone support.

Media Temple seems good.
Many swear by Dreamhost.
Well might need to eat my words with this:

I actually love Media Temple. They had a huge problem back in May which has since been resolved. Many of the giants uses them including techcrunch and other known brands.

And I doubt they are paying 20 bucks a month. It sounds like glorified shared hosting to me. Nifty rebranding and a little repackaging of an old dog.
I'll stick to my dedi. Free, 1Mbit, measured with the industry standard 95th%ile -- no weird made-up measurements, or hoops of fire to leap through.
lol. True. But you do get what you pay for. I'm not sure how their grid thing works, but their virtual servers has been pretty reliable for me.
But you do get what you pay for
thats NOT always true, im sorry.
I work for a host - I speak from the other side, with nothing to gain.
Case in point -- a LOT of hosts try to sell people by offering more than one MySQL database. Guess what.. you only need one. And its the space of that one that matters. Not how many individual dbs you get.
I had shared hosting on A Small Orange for 2 years -- paid a meager $5.00 a month for hosting, NEVER had a single bit of downtime that wasnt a result of my own screwing around. and ALWAYS had tickets answered within 30 minutes, max, regardless of the time of day it was submitted.
There are plenty of over-achieving hosts that dont use name recognition to sell themselves, they use their customer service.
