Media Upload Corrupting Images - Please Help (4 posts)

    Hi Everyone,

The problem that I am having is that when I upload an image file through WordPress, the image file is corrupted. They become truncated and blocky, with sections of the image discolored or out of alignment. Here are some examples:

    http://inabsentiapress.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/IMG_2037.jpg
    http://inabsentiapress.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/IMG_2043.jpg
    http://inabsentiapress.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/testImage.jpg

No matter how they are uploaded, (directly though a new post or through the media library), this corruption occurs. Though all the examples I have linked to a JPEG files, I am having the same issue with GIFs and PNGs as well. I have tried to upload through several browsers on several different computers and platforms, all causing the same issue.

I also did an entire deletion and reinstall of WordPress on my server, but the corruption still occurred.

Further more, if I then download the uploaded images back onto my computer, they will not open properly in programs like Preview Photoshop.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this issue? It is a huge problem for me, and other users, including myself, have started forums about this in the past, but no one seems to know what is going on:

Can anyone at least point me in the right direction to get the issue fixed, since there doesn't seem to be a way to directly notify WordPress about the issue?

    Hi,

I encountered the problem myself today. The problem lies within the communication between apache and php thru the mod_fcgid. There is a known bug and a patch can be grabbed here:

    https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=48554

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks SquirrellHH!

I don't know too much about Apache. Are these changes I can implement on my own, or is this something my hosting service should be made aware of?

    here is the solution.
If you are running your own server, download and replace the updated fcgi(2.3.5) module from http://www.takeyellow.com/apachemirror/httpd/binaries/win32/.

It fixed my issue in my blog at http://www.senthil.name.
