Media pages and size of images (4 posts)

Ok I am not sure where to go for this question and I have done a fair amount of searching for it.

For each piece of media I upload a page is associated to the media. For example this is an image I have uploaded while writing a post but never actually placed it in the post itself.

So I can see that the photo belong to the recent post even though it was never placed inside the post itself.

Where in my template can I control the size of the photo that is displayed on this page? This is also a problem for the galleries I have created. I usually upload images of 400-600px give or take and altough they are usually smaller in the post them selfs, when users click on the image and are brought to this page I would like to show then a larger image.

If their is tutorials, codex, external sources I would love if you could post a link. Totally enjoying WordPress as a blog and CMS platform.

    Yes Thank you esmi.

I have changed those settings. But it hasn't changed anything on two different wordpress installs.

Also How does it determine which size it chooses you have a medium and a small version?

I am also confused by the:

determine the maximum dimensions in pixels to use when inserting an image into the body of a post.

In the body of the post I take it that applies to any post I write but also any media page.

It will only affect new images that you upload. If you want to change the dimensions of images you've already uploaded, you'll have to re-upload and re-insert them into your posts. :-(

It uses the max width and height dimensions in Admin/Settings/Media. Generally I suggest that you don't allow images to be cropped (auto-cropping rarely produces good thumbnails) - in which case, WP will take the largest of the height & width of the uploaded image, re-size it down to your max height (or width) and then re-scale the other dimension accordingly.

Within the Add Image page, you then get the option to choose which of the 3 images sizes you want to insert into a post.
