• I have recently setup a staging site for a client’s website as I have to perform updates to plugins etc. After following this guide, I was able to successfully create a staging site.

The problem I am having is that I can’t upload any media to the upload folders. Whenever I do upload an image, it shows up as a broken image plus it’s not located in the folder.

I have changed the permission setting on the upload folder to 777 as several forums have indicated is the solution to the problem.

    Please help? ANYONE?

  • Using “777” for folder permissions is not a good idea, as explained here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions#The_dangers_of_777

Instead, contact your host and ask them to check the folder permissions. Generally folders are set to “755” and individual files to “644”, but your hosting provider might have different rules, so you’ll want to check with them. The link above will also have additional information on the general settings for permissions.

Chris thanks so much for this, I just saw this as I still haven’t still resolved the issue. Let me contact GoDaddy.
