Yesterday I uploaded all of the images for my various posts, but today I find that a lot of them are showing broken images. I haven’t touched them between when I uploaded them and posted to now, and I’m wondering what happened in the meantime and how to fix it.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Any information on a fix? I don’t want this to be happening constantly. If I were to take all the images down and completely redo my posts, I don’t want them to be gone again the next day.

    Suggestions?

(btw, I recently had to redo my wordpress blog, and I’m now using the latest version – 2.7 – I never had this issue with the previous version)

  • WORDPRESS: 2.8.2
THEME: Cordobo Green Park 2 0.9.100 by Andreas Jacob
PLUGINS: FormBuilder v0.80, Page Flip Image Gallery v0.5.6.2, Surveys v1.01.3 and WP Shopping Cart v3.7

UPDATES: WP and Plugins are up-to-date as of this posting.
    CHMOD: wp-content set to 777

ISSUE-1: No thumbnails on new images loaded into Media Library.
ISSUE-2: Broken media (images) when posting to POSTs or PAGEs.

50% of previously loaded PNG files are OK, the rest of the previously loaded PNG files do not show a thumbnail in the Media Library and when I try to use them in a PAGE or POST using the WP media toolbar, they images showup as broken.

I loaded new files into the Media Library via the WP Media tool using JPG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF and PNG formats. None of these show the thumbnail nor can the be inserted into a POST or PAGE.

This appears to have been broken in 2.8.1 so I thought 2.8.2 was a fix, it was not.

    UPDATE: 11:02AM PST 07/21/2009

I can see in my folders that the Media Library is not uploading the files to the appropriate directory, in fact I do not know where they are going.

In JUNE (the files that work) the were in uploads/2009/06 as expected.
In JULY – I do not know where they are going but they are not in the ../07 directory.

    UPDATE: 11:06AM PST 07/21/2009

I manually uploaded the file referenced by the media library tool:

    http://inoc.ous.edu/meetme/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/TravelLessGetMoreDone-Flyer.png

This DID NOT resolve the issue, so I removed the Media Library entry and re-added it via the tool and this did not resolve the issue.

    RESOLUTION!! 11:52AM PST 07/21/2009

It was a DOH! moment. THe answer is that IF you have changed your storage location via SETTINGS | MISC (wp-admin/options-misc.php) and the field “Store uploads in this folder”, remove the entry so that the default is “wp-content/uploads” and this fixes both issues.
