media “appears with” post (aka media associatied with post)

i’ve noticed that when i want to post an image i’ve uploaded previously for another post, i have to goto to the “media library” to get it. also, under: manage > media library , each image has a column “appears with” and the post name.

i think this means any uploaded media is associated with a post/page.

so, is there any way to call up images associated with the post/page on a template? example:
if there are images associated with the post, display in a list, if not, do not show a list.

there should be a template tag for this, but i can’t find it in the codex. i know i can insert the images one at a time in the post, bu would prefer an automated method so the images appear in a uniform way.
