   I have set my "medium" image size for uploaded media to be 500px wide maximum in the misc settings. But it doesn't seem to want to work. It seems to be ignoring the fact I am selecting medium image, likewise thumbnails don't work.

   I manually resized the images so they all look ok at the moment, but I thought I'd show you the URL anyway incase it's a problem with my theme.

   Have you access to your database via phpmyadmin? If so, you can look under the options-table for "medium_size_w" / "medium_size_h" and change it.
   You can also set the max-width for all images in your stylesheet (this will not work in IE6!):
   img {max-width:500px}
