Is there a way to set the Max quantity for an entire category and not just the products within the category?

So if you have a category called paintings and you set the maximum to 1, you can only purchase 1 product form the painting category?

No sorry, Advance Product Quantities doesn’t support that. To do so would require creating ‘order rules’ in addition to the ‘product rules’ we have now, so it would take a fair bit of development.
